Slow down on our streets!

On Balgowlah Road over the Easter weekend, 28 percent of vehicles were spotted travelling over the speed limit. That’s 6,456 vehicles in just four days!

396 vehicles were travelling more than 10 kilometres per hour over the limit, with several cars reported at speeds of between 70 and 80 kilometres per hour.

This data is of particular concern as at points along Balgowlah Road, the speed limit drops to 40 kilometres per hour around child care centres and the Swim Centre.

Another 40 kilometres per hour zone monitored was North Steyne at Queenscliff where 163 cars were recorded travelling at more than 20 kilometres over the limit.

On Lauderdale Avenue, 17 percent of drivers were over the speed limit, while on White Street traffic was slowed by the presence of roundabouts at junctions.

Council is reminding people that the speed limit on local streets is 50 kilometres per hour, with several 40 kilometre zones in areas of high pedestrian activity.

Speeding increases both the risk of crashing - and the severity of the crash.

 Become a Friend of Cabbage Tree Bay Volunteer

In 2012, Manly Council in partnership with Fisheries NSW established a volunteer group for Cabbage Tree Bay ‘No Take Aquatic Reserve’ to help educate visitors about the biodiversity of Cabbage Tree Bay and the importance of preserving and protecting this biodiversity.

Called ‘The Friends of Cabbage Tree Bay’, the group works to increase public awareness of conservation issues within the reserve.

Volunteering provides an opportunity to learn more about our amazing marine environment and participate in local events to promote ‘The Friends of Cabbage Tree Bay’.
