New park for Fairlight on sale of old reservoir

After discussions with Manly Council, Sydney Water has agreed to dedicate 500 square metres of the old Fairlight Reservoir site at the corner of Ashley Parade and Fairlight Street for use as parkland.

Sydney Water operated the reservoir from 1892 to the early 1960s, but now the community can enjoy this land - for the first time in more than 100 years!

Green space is important to the community and Council is delighted at having reached this outcome with Sydney Water.

The Reservoir site was recently sold by Sydney Water but is now subject to development controls to protect its heritage value, too. 

Surfing and music action this weekend

There will be plenty of exciting surfing action over the weekend at the 2016 Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach, concluding tomorrow (Sunday 6 March).

A major highlight will be tomorrow’s epic expression session featuring Mark Occhilupo, Damien Hardman, Barton Lynch and Tom Carroll.

And today (Saturday 5 March), Angus and Julia Stone are headlining the Australian Open of Surfing MTV music stage, following a support set by Kita Alexander.

Over 200,000 people will have attended the Australian Open of Surfing over the nine days of the event, providing a significant economic stimulus, especially to local business here in Manly.

Manly Volleyfest

Manly is to host another spectacular major sporting event this month, too.

During March, the world’s best volleyball players descend on Manly Beach for Manly Volleyfest.

Over two weeks, Manly will host the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour Finals (18-20 March), the inaugural 4 Nations Cup (21-22 March), and the Asian Volleyball Confederation Beach Volleyball Championships (25-28 March).
